The number one person that lies to you, is you.

Let me tell you what makes you angry. Lies. Mostly, we get angry that we can be made to believe them. What if I told you there are many lies you’re believing right now? Duh, right? Your anger should be directed toward who is telling you lies, but very often we believe a lie about who exactly that is. Let me tell you who that is. Usually, it’s you. We should have faith in what’s true, and instead we believe our own dumb repeat offense mind telling us the same dumb thing to get us in the same dumb trouble again and again. It does this through our perceived injustices. Care should be taken to direct your anger at that which is leaving you empty, deceived, and regretful. But we choose to believe our own lies, and then give ourselves undue credit for misdirecting our anger and punishing the wrong enemy. The enemy, really, is not a lack of regret. We’ve got loads of that. The enemy, really, is a lack of reflection, but it’s the uncomfortable kind. The kind where it’s nobody’s fault but your own. Ew. Nobody likes that kind, I know. Your head will swear 8 days to Sunday that nothing is your fault, and we like that. But growing is exactly this, if it’s anything--to stop listening to that little kid inside that wants his brother’s candy and will kill him to get it. Maturity is just knowing, and living like, you yourself are the prime suspect in the line up. Your heart will always look for the alibi, but believing it is the greatest deception of all.
