You are one-sided

The side you’re looking at, in the moment, is the side that controls you.

Everyone is one-sided, opinionated, and stubborn. You really have to be, it’s how we’re made, to survive. But at some point, you have to realize, that’s not how to find truth. You have to be two-sided for a hot minute, and challenge your own thinking. The only things you can afford to stay stubborn about are your kids' well-being and work, really. Funny thing, these are the things getting less attention, and more attacked, lately. So, we live in a world where the most precious things, and the most necessary things, life and work, are falling prey to our petty stubbornness, and targeted more than being protected and embraced by it. This tells me nothing if not that one one-sidedness can backfire. It feels like you just want to shake people. You’re not always right! Think about how what you’re doing affects other life forms, yes, but drop the god complex and think through ALL the consequences, not just your favorite ones. (You heard me.) This life is hard, but it’s harder on a lot more people than just you. The problem comes when you think you’ve figured it all out as opposed to actually figuring out where you’re maybe a little too self-assured. But that’s insecurity for you. (You heard me, again.) Stop playing with fire and build a fireplace, or you’re going to burn down your whole house. Take a look out there. If you open your eyes, you’ll see it. We’re eating ourselves alive. Drunk on power, in it our for ourselves. Grow up.

We're powerless, but we're drunk on power. It's not from above, it's only our hubris. It's not power we need, because it's never going to come from our own strength, alone.

*If God told us everything that was wrong with us all at once, we'd all be Isaiah, undone, with no hope. He gives us what we need when we need it, all the time. But we have to choose to let go of what we don't need, our self-assured security plan, every once in a while.
